Piha R&R News Update - 24 October

Storm Water Clearamce

We continue to press Auckland Council and Aucland Transport on this issue. Below is the latest from Auckland Council, Healthy Waters

I’ve been passed the issue with the level of silt and debris in the Marawhara Stream which is impacting the road culvert and the Fire Brigade’s ability to collect water.

Healthy Waters are intending to undertake a survey of the silt/debris levels next week (currently planned for Wednesday) to determine the volume that will be required to be removed to restore the pool and ensure that the culvert is not restricted. I understand that Auckland Transport may have attempted a previous clearance of the culvert, however the high levels of upstream debris were washed into the culvert shortly afterwards. We’ll update after the survey has been completed and let you know of our plans to address the silt and debris in the Marawhara Stream upstream and downstream of the road culvert.

I believe you had also raised issues with the maintenance of the road drainage in Piha which Auckland Transport will be responding directly to you on.

While most of the drainage in Piha is Auckland Transport’s, Healthy Waters is also currently looking at options to improve drainage at Marine Parade South (near 15 Marine Parade South), Garden Road (near 47 Garden Road) and North Piha Road (around 63 North Piha Road) as just undertaking maintenance of the road drainage won’t be adequate to address the extended periods of flooding that have occurred in those locations.
