Piha R&R Cyclone Update - 4th July

Piha Cyclone recovery continues:

  • Piha R&R representatives are meeting weekly with Piha Community Liaison Officer Simon Fraser, to obtain new information and focusing on the issues we know are important to the Piha community. Contact us by Email HERE if you have issues you would like us to pursue.

  • The Auckland Council Geotech report is now not expected until early September at the earliest. This is disappointing as the report being compiled by GHD, will form the basis from which Red, Yellow and White stickered home owners, (now Brown and Purple in the latest info,) will be assessed for receiving Government and Council compensation and/or finalising insurance claims.

  • The Piha Domain we are told that the Piha Domain will be cleared and the damaged areas seeded with grass and fenced off on July 3rd and 4th. Once this is domne, let us all try to keep the hooligans from killing the grass doing wheelies !.

  • Road repairs and maintenance, bridge repairs and storm water drains all fall within Auckland Transports long list of recovery work. There are 140 items on the list and 10 are ascribed to Piha and Karekare. We are trying to obtain a schedule of that list along with their category of priority. Resources for this work, including manpower and machines, are scarce.

  • The Piha Road lookout slip repairs have been contracted to Downer. There is no new information on when the works will commence, but we still hope for mid to late August.

  • Rayner Road is officially Closed, but Auckland Transport insist that the existing signage at the road slump, (60 Rayner Rd.) is all that is needed. Too bad for trucks that get there and then have to reverse a kilometer to turn around !!
