Piha R&R Cyclone Update - 11th July

Piha Cyclone recovery continues:

  • Piha R&R representatives are meeting weekly with Piha Community Liaison Officer Simon Fraser. We work on getting new information, clarifying some of the information already distributed and focusing on the issues we know are important to the Piha community. Contact us by Email HERE if you have issues you would like us to pursue.

  • Piha Matariki Festival will add to the funds already realised through the hard work of Jenene Crossan and her team. Funds will be distributed to deserving Piha families who have been adversely affected by Cyclone Gabrielle and it’s aftermath.

  • Auckland Council & Auckland Transport are responsible for a wide range of remedial works across the city. The list is long, Piha is a small but significant piece of the puzzle and we ppress hard to keep the problems of Piha to the forefront. Resources for this work, including manpower and machines, are scarce across all affected areas of the country, not just in Auckland.

  • Piha Domain is being cleaned up and prepared for grass seeding. Let us all work to keep the hooligans from destroying the work with their “wheelies.”

  • The Piha Road lookout slip repairs have been contracted to Downer. However, the engineering design details still have not been finalised for “sign-off” and hand-over to Downer. We are hoping this will not delay commencement of the works.

  • Rayner Road is officially Closed, but Auckland Transport insist that the existing signage at the road slump, (60 Rayner Rd.) is all that is needed. Too bad for trucks that get there and then have to reverse a kilometer to turn around !!
