Piha Cyclone Update - June 20

Piha Cyclone recovery is alive and well.

  • Funds that were solicited and/or received from NZ Red Cross, Give-a-Little, and private donors through the hard work of Jenene Crossan and her team have largely been distributed, but will continue to find deserving recipients as the money continues to be received.

  • Red and Yellow stickered home owners have been meeting regularly with AEM Liaison Officer Simon Fraser and are now awaiting the Auckland Council Geotech Report that will inform Insurance Companies and owners and be the basis for Government and Council decisions. The report is due late August or September following the peer review process.

  • The Marawhara and Wekatahi Bridges have been surveyed. We await a report from Auckland Council / Transport. The Piha Stream Bridge at the Fire Station has been surveyed and declared safe.

  • Everyone is concerned about the Piha Road lookout slip repairs and some residents have received notices from Downer, who have been given the repair contract. There is confusion between AEM, Auckland Transport and Downer over the start date. Piha R&R is pressing for answers.

  • Rayner Road is officially Closed, but should have signage as with Glenesk Road. We have asked the questions.
