Piha R&R Cyclone Update - 27th June

Piha Cyclone recovery continues:

  • Piha R&R representatives are meeting weekly with Piha Community Liaison Officer Simon Fraser. We work on getting new information, clarifying some of the information already distributed and focusing on the issues we know are important to the Piha community. Contact us by Email HERE if you have issues you would like us to pursue.

  • Funds that have been requested through grants with the hard work of Jenene Crossan and her team have largely been distributed, but donations from grants and private donors and businesses are still being received and will distributed to deserving recipients as the money is received.

  • The Auckland Council Geotech report being compiled by GHD will undergo peer review before being made public and is expected to be available late August or September. This will form the basis from which Red, Yellow and White stickered home owners, (now Brown and Purple in the latest info,) will be assessed for receiving Government and Council compensation and/or finalising insurance claims.

  • The Marawhara and Wekatahi Bridges have been surveyed but we are told the bridges in Piha are only three of 12 or 15 bridges surveyed. We await a report from Auckland Council / Transport. The Piha Stream Bridge at the Fire Station has been surveyed and declared safe.

  • The Piha Road lookout slip repairs have been contracted to Downer. However, the engineering design details have not yet been finalised for for “sign-off” and hand-over to Downer. We are hoping this will not delay commencement of the works.

  • Rayner Road is officially Closed, but should have signage as with Glenesk Road. We were told Auckland Transport has been instructed to install the appropriate signage and cones.
