Auckland Council is considering changing all the Water Safety Signs at Piha.
In 2016, after community meetings at the Piha SLSC in October and December, 2015 and a subsequent meeting on the beach which included interested residents, the Local Board, Piha R&R, Piha Coastcare, Protect Piha Heritage and Waitakere Ranges Protection Society, the design, position, style and colour of the currently existing signs was agreed by all parties.
Now Auckland Council wants to overturn that community consultation, remove the existing signs and replace them with signs that are Red and Black on a White background. The design that the community specifically rejected in 2016 as inappropriate and in conflict with the intent of the Waitākere Ranges Heritage Area Act 2008, Piha Area Design Guidelines 2010, Piha Reserves Management Plan 1999 or the Piha Coastal Management Plan 2000.
Another waste of Ratepayer money when the budget is blown out??
