Update on water. With the opening of the campground bore, public toilets and campground showers, Piha is better off than most of the villages in the west. Thats fortunate because installing tanks at Waiatarua, Cornwallis and Waitakere has hits some snags.
Heres an update:
Today (Monday), contractors have been out inspecting sites to make sure they can accommodate a tank. Sites will be prepared and tanks installed progressively during this week. They will then need to be treated and filled before they can be used by the public. This could take several days and is being done on each site. Council have a responsibility to make sure these facilities are safe and sanitary hence the need for the commissioning time.
As soon as each tank is installed on site, Auckland Council will update Our Auckland (https://ourauckland.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/articles/news/2020/02/auckland-council-supporting-rural-communities-as-dry-weather-continues/)
Auckland Council is making some leisure centres available for showering and water filling for rural residents during the current dry weather.
