Auckland transport has briefed the Local Board on the current status of the Piha Road upgrade project.
It seems that they have seriously down-sized the project both in scope and size. They are now proposing to start at the lookout area and stop at the Pendrell Road/Seaview Road junction, whereas they were originally going all the way to the Campground entry or thereabouts.
It is proposed that the works will be in two stages:
- Stage One: Four retaining walls on the seaward side approximately at Numbers 35, 45, 55 and 75. Work scheduled for early 2020.
- Stage Two: Re-making and sealing of the road, including storm-water collection drainage on the landward side. Work scheduled to start early 2021.
Piha R&R have again asked Auckland Transport for a community consultation where everyone can understand the proposal and provide input BEFORE design is completed. This is a major project with huge implications for the Piha community. There will be long traffic delays and traffic disruption can only be prolonged and difficult to endure.
The Piha community deserves a better deal from Auckland Transport and we are working with the Waitakere Ranges Local Board to achieve that.
