SEA LIFE Trust New Zealand, in conjunction with the Sea Life Trust international, is conducting a 24 hour global beach clean on June 8th – teams around the world conduct their own individual beach cleans all on the same day over 24 hours in a global effort to reduce marine debris, and almost more importantly, to raise awareness.
The Conversation (In part)
SEA LIFE Trust New Zealand: We are hoping that Piha R&R would support the event occurring on the 8th of June by sharing it with local businesses to post on their Facebook pages and to their staff.
Piha R&R: The Piha Ratepayers and residents Assn. is very supportive of your organisation, or any organisation, actively engaged in marine conservation initiatives. ……..we would be pleased to support you.
We do note however that we are very fortunate at Piha, as the local community takes great pride in maintaining the environment and unique ecology of the beach and surrounding bush, and this results in a very clean beach.
SEA LIFE Trust New Zealand: We went out to Piha just the other weekend after we decided to conduct a beach clean there, and you’re right – it’s pretty spotless! So we have decided that although we would love to spend the morning out at Piha, for the sake of having an impact with this beach clean we will find a beach that is in greater need of a clean-up.
