Message received from Auckland Council
Tēnā koe,
We are currently seeking feedback on the proposal to revoke the legacy on-site wastewater bylaws. Providing your feedback on this proposal ensures your voice is heard by our decision makers.
We are contacting you as our current information indicates your property may have an on-site wastewater system, such as a septic tank. If this is incorrect, our apologies, and to ensure we do not contact you again on this matter please respond to this email advising your Watercare reference number, so we can correct our records.
About the consultation
Auckland Council is proposing to revoke four legacy bylaws that relate to the regulation of on-site wastewater management. The bylaws were created to ensure that septic tanks and wastewater treatment systems are properly installed and maintained.
The bylaws cover the former council areas of:
- North Shore City
- Waiheke
- Rodney District Council
- Papakura District Council
Now that the Auckland Unitary Plan has become operative, it regulates on-site wastewater systems for the whole Auckland region.
The legacy on-site wastewater bylaws provide no additional regulation and are no longer required. Existing legislation also provides stronger enforcement powers than the legacy bylaws.
You can view the legacy on-site wastewater bylaws, current unitary plan rules and other relevant documents to assist you to provide feedback on our consultation site at www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/haveyoursay
