Latest update: Auckland Transport say, “we are undertaking preliminary work preparatory to a planned roadway upgrade from Te Ahuahu Road to Garden Road. This involves surveying and assessment of base conditions below the existing seal. Any works program will be dependent on design constraints and budgeting.”
Piha R&R are trying to ensure that before major any works may begin, there is some community involvement that might hopefully clear a path for for the best possible outcomes with the least community impact and disruption.
We have all seen the infestation of orange cones and waited for the signalman to let us through. Definitely survey work being done by a Survey company who are working for a another company that has a contract with Auckland Transport. And then there were the Piha people who had their nights disturbed by workers drilling into the road for “pit testing.”
Storm water on Piha Road has been a problem for years and constant letters to Council to keep the drains cleaned of debris largely fall on deaf ears. Last year we had a slip that almost wiped out a house across from number 12.
Last time Council got serious on this issue, (Waitakere City Council back in the early 1990’s ,) they managed to create some problems that still persist today.
Watch this space.
