The following announcement has been released by the Piha Surf lifesaving Club
“It is with Great sadness that the Piha SLSC announces the passing of one of our own Senior Lifeguards whilst holidaying in Japan.
Nicholas Mackenzie was an outstanding lifeguard, a dedicated team member of the mighty F Patrol, and a member of several Boat crews. Nic has been an integral part of the club for many years since starting out as a young Nipper. He was a wonderful mentor to many of our younger members, particularly as a sweep for his Princesses boat crew and as a Club Instructor.
Nic always had a smile on his face, was ready for any challenge and was the most helpful, fun loving guy you could ever wish to meet. A true clubbie. A true friend. It is hard to describe the sadness that envelops the club at the moment, losing one of our family at the young age of 24.
Our thoughts and memories are with his family – Vanda, Chris, Sean & Anna.
More details about celebrating Nic’s life will come in the days to follow, but for now, please respect the families wishes for privacy.”
