Latest monitoring – freshwater lakes (From Auckland Council – Safeswim)
The Piha R&R is VERY concerned and actively pushing Council to address the pollution problem in the Piha Lagoons. This is an on going and complex problem, but unless we keep the pressure on Council, nothing will happen. The recent publicity in the NZ Herald, TV1 and TV3 will assist our efforts, but resolving the problem will take a concerted effort and the testing programme within Safeswim is only a small step. There is no point in testing if no action follows the unacceptable tests that prevail and Council has been obtaining unacceptable test results for YEARS without any effort to identify the source or mitigate the problem.
The Safeswim monitoring programme for the 2014/15 summer season starts on 3 November 2014 and runs through to 31 March 2015.The latest testing results for Piha are shown in the tables below.
