Science Fun for the Young at Waiatarua Playcentre
Down a secluded tree bordered driveway in the beautiful Waiatarua, a group of children enjoyed a week of imagination and exploration. They were fossil hunters, biologists and engineers. Last week was ‘Science’ week at Waiatarua Playcentre, with children examining the insides of fish, playing with magnets, making electrical circuits, building volcanos and last but not least digging for buried eggs.
Plaster of Paris eggs were hidden in a corner of our sandpit. Children excitedly dug around until they uncovered their egg. They were then given the fun job of smashing them open with hammers. Imagine their surprise when they found farm animals, a kiwi and a koala!
Waiatarua Playcentre is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and is a parent run organisation that values adult and children learning together, through play. We cater for 0 – 5 year olds and would love to add some new explorers to our centre.
Phone 814 8835 to organise a time to visit and try out our yummy baking or just pop in at 911 West Coast Rd (down the drive from the Waiatarua Community Hall).
